About SOI

Seeds of Independence is a mentor and volunteer based non-profit corporation founded to help at risk youths in Maine reach their full potential as independent, productive members of society. The corporation intends to combat juvenile delinquency and positively affect the school dropout rate in our State by operating numerous programs aimed at mentoring at risk youths. The organization was built on three very successful and previously independent programs:

Rebound: A program to mentor repeat juvenile offenders in Maine who have been convicted of a criminal offense. Rebound is in its eighth year and has provided mentors for approximately 200 juveniles.

Jumpstart: An alternative criminal justice sentencing program which diverts juvenile offenders from the traditional legal system. Jump Start is in its eleventh year of mentoring work and has worked with over 500 students.

Dominican Work Trip: An annual one week trip of adults and juveniles designed to build youth skills, youth/mentor relationships, and community commitment while providing for the most poor. Our Dominican Republic trip has had ten years of providing meaningful and often life changing experiences for over 300 youths and adults.

Seeds of Independence, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity, EIN #26-3319544.
